This makes a direct conversion to 110v AC and then you can plug your laptop powersupply directly into it and not worry about the voltage going to  the laptop. However if you do not want to buy additional equipment, then you should use the 18 v setting to make sure that you don't overvolt your laptop. The problem is you may not charge your battery when you are working this way and when you unplug it will not have any spare battery life to run. I hope this helps.</description>
